Original and Creative Movement in Modern Dance- Link to Assignment-- DESCRIPTION IN CLASS- Additional Pending information to be posted here TBA
Three Personal Goals are to be established and submitted at the beginning of each semester and are to be reviewed throughout. Personal Goals must able to be applied to this course, and are a Semester/Year long objective for each student. Based on the nature of this class- they may relate to Dance, Physical Fitness, Arts in General. Check in with the instructor if you are unsure how to apply your personal 'goals' to class. Or if different ones need to be submitted. Work on your goals daily, weekly, monthly. (USE LINK IN TITLE ABOVE TO FILL OUT)
Name prominently displayed on Outside Cover- Must be brought to class on the first and last day of each week, and all designated 'Choreography work-days'.
This is a 1-4 year project which includes the following divided sections-
Choreography Each Student is expected to have a collection of choreography tools, assignments, written versions of choreography in their portfolio that reflect their interests and ongoing research/knowledge of the practice of choreographing dances.
Dance Images From The Media Sample Images and Reflections Each Student is expected to have a collection of images in their portfolio that reflects their interests and ongoing research/knowledge on dance images from the media, How dance is portrayed, and societal implications. These should reflect your taste- likes dislikes, AND more importantly provide/explore the rationale behind your preferences and viewpoint.
Health and Fitness Articles Diet and Exercise Tracking Sample Articles and Tools (Collection of articles that display your knowledge and your specific interests as pertains to Health and Fitness)- Each Student is expected to have a collection of Articles in their portfolio that reflect their interests and ongoing research/knowledge on health and fitness topics
Journals Tech I Tech II (Must have a 'Table Of Contents' for this section- NO TOC= No Credit)- Students should complete the prompts found on this site, (in addition to some of their own choosing.) If a recommended topic IS NOT of interest, students may elect to use some of the open journal topics and/or may request permission to substitute their own writing prompts.
Vocabulary (Fitness, Kinesiology, Dance, Choreography Theory, Arts/Aesthetics) Each Student is expected to have a collection of Vocabulary in their portfolio that reflect their ongoing research/knowledge (and/or personal interests) as pertains to dance vocabulary based on their dance level.
Upon completion of each year of study- Students are expected to be able to express emerging, developing, advanced, or exemplary proficiency at their course level, and/or experience level regarding the portfolio subjects.
Sample two part question, and demonstration of the portfolio would be as follows.
Part 1. What can you tell me about __________________ (pick one of the five portfolio headings above). From your studies this year.
Part 2. Show the evidence for how this is displayed in your portfolio.
The PORTFOLIO EVIDENCE (for the purpose of this assignment) is of equal importance to your KNOWLEDGE and OPINIONS. (Operate in the following manner- This would be like a parallel to 'evidence' in court. If you have the documents to PROVE it, you may present it. If your knowledge expressed about a subject is not reflected in your portfolio, it doesn't count. If you were to say- "Dance is one of the best way to get in shape and stay healthy for life", do you have, articles, journals, images, comparisons, or is this just 'hearsay' )
First Semester- Knowledge and solo execution of material from handout. (Presented for grading DURING class time)
Second Semester- Solo Execution with personal variations
(Presented for grading OUTSIDE of class time-- students will also be tested on their ballet pirouette at this time, and receive the opportunity to 'test out' of the simple daily exercise to move onto advanced turn study)
After showing the material, you will receive feedback which you are expected to apply to the 'Cecchetti Corners' over the course of the semester (therefore, although it may be presented for a grade at any point in the semester, the earlier it is submitted- the higher the grade you will be able to earn.
If you submit it in February to Mid March the highest you can Earn is an "A"....
March to Mid April "B"
Mid April to May 'C'.
You are not guaranteed the highest grade- simply- you are ELIGIBLE). Ask the instructor- if this detail is confusing. BASICALLY- THE EARLIER YOU TURN THIS IN THE BETTER.
You may retest any number of times for a higher grade on this semester two assignment, and can earn the highest grade for the time period you submitted your original test.
This Requirement links very easily with your journals. You are to submit One question and answer for each week of this course relating to either art, health and fitness, Dance. You may either do these on a weekly basis, or collect them and post a number of them at one time.
The majority of in class vocabulary is found as a part of the handouts that you receive in class. If you receive it in a handout, you are expected to read it. If you read it, you are expected to understand it. If you understand it, you are expected to be able to articulate it through written and/or oral and/or Physical expression. If you have questions about something you have received in class, you are expected to request clarifications/ definitions on portfolio days.
Technique Level II Terms to review
Submit a video for the class to watch. Make it something worthwhile. Be ready to articulate why it is valuable to watch.
Tech I Period 2 Tech I EARLY CLASS PERIOD suggested Videos Submissions (Confirm CLASS PERIOD and Instructions)
Tech I Period 3 Tech I suggested Video Submissions (Confirm CLASS PERIOD and Instructions)
Tech II INTERMEDIATE DANCE Period 1. Tech II Period 1 INTERMEDIATE DANCE Video Link Submission (Confirm Instructions)
'True Dance' is the space BETWEEN the steps.
'True Music' is made BETWEEN the notes that are played.
Grades are earned by what you are doing BETWEEN the instructions you receive, or even IN ADDITION TO the instructions you receive. If you are interested in earning the highest marks possible for class, you will be asked what you have done for this class for your ART or PE credit that was 'above and beyond'. There are thousands of examples of daily, weekly, monthly things that will fulfill this category. Some take a lot of time, some take very little. Find something that interests you, and go for it.
Be prepared to support your work in class with strong statements about your above and beyond work for the year.
